“I take pleasure in the process of creating mosaics from conceptualizing the initial idea to choosing materials, design and production, to the realization of installing the mosaic into its intended location. The materials I use are of the finest quality….Italian smalti and glass tile, Portuguese porcelain tile, ceramic tile from Spain, and marble quarried in various parts of Europe. The individual tiles, or tesserae, are beautiful in their own right. Cutting and arranging tesserae to create a fine art mosaic that affects the overall design of its intended location and ultimately the people who experience it is laborious but immensely satisfying. Through the process of studying and creating mosaics, I feel connected to generations of artisans whose creations have graced homes, religious sites, community areas, and palaces for centuries. I am a member of the Society for American Mosaic Artists (SAMA), Mosaic Artists Organization (MAO), and the International Association of Contemporary Mosaic Artists (AIMC).”
